Well, I’ve been known for my music critiques and rantings over the years, but one other thing that I’ve been following for a while is UFC. Now, I don’t own any Tapout or Affliction t-shirts (which is definitely a good thing), nor do have the desire to train and get in the ring with one of these guys, but by watching enough, you get an idea for these fighters and their trajectory within the UFC ranks.
One of the biggest UFC Pay-Per Views is coming up as UFC hits New Jersey on Saturday, March 27th. There are two major championship fights on the card. One for the Welterweight title and one for the Interim Heavyweight title. Below is my questionable expert knowledge in the world of MMA and my predictions and thoughts for UFC 111.
NOTE: If you lose any money on these fights because of my prediction, then that is your own fault and I claim no responsibility for your stupidity or mine.
Here we go..

Welterweight Title: Georges St. Pierre (19-2) vs. Dan Hardy (23-6)
Georges St. Pierre has not fought since last July’s UFC 100, when he tore a muscle in a very painful place and needed surgery, which has kept the Canadian out of action since then. In the wake of that, Englishman Dan Hardy has called out GSP on many occasions, thinking he’s the man to bring down the longtime champ St. Pierre. The buzz got louder after Hardy beat Mike Swick at UFC 105. But when it comes down to it, St. Pierre is way too far of a force to lose at this point. The only thing that could derail St. Pierre is overconfidence or lack of preparation. But St. Pierre will be focused and even though Hardy will put up a good fight, St. Pierre will eventually wear him out in a submission.
PICK: St. Pierre wins via submission in the 4th Round.

Interim Heavyweight Title: Frank Mir (13-4) vs. Shane Carwin (11-0)
Ok, I would refer to this more as a “#1 Contender Match” than a title match. With Brock Lesnar recovering and now training for his next title defense, this match is nothing more than sizing up to see who Lesnar fights next. Carwin is the quiet knockout artist who has slowly been building steam over the past couple of years. Carwin was supposed to fight Lesnar for the title back in November, before Lesnar’s freakish aliment up in Canada stopped that fight. Meanwhile, saying Frank Mir is hellbent on fighting Lesnar again is an understatement: Mir wants to destroy everything Lesnar is about and win the title back. This should be a good fight that probably wont see the full five rounds. If Carwin keeps it from becoming a ground battle, he could pull out the victory. But I believe Mir will take this to the ground and will get Carwin in a submission and get his wish: The rubber match and massive PPV numbers for a rematch with Lesnar.
PICK: Mir wins via submission in late 3rd Round.
