I am just going to say this: I pretty much love Slayer more than life itself, but Tom Araya pissed me off on postponing the “American Carnage Tour” 6 months. Araya’s back surgery forced the band to take some time off, forcing the postponement of the February 6th date, but oh well. Araya is well rested up and now ready to take on the American crowds again, along with fellow Big Four thrash heroes Megadeth and second wave thrashers Testament- so all is well. Do we even need to say just how big this tour is? Didn’t think so…
These titans of thrash will be delivering the metal to Joe Louis Arena in Detroit on Thursday, August 19th. Here is what you need to know about the show:
Slayer: “World Painted Blood” is out, and this is the first time the legendary thrash band has hit Detroit since the album’s release. By judging their performance on the “Big Four Live” simulcast back in June, Tom Araya looks back to almost normal and the band sounds as tight as ever. Fans of the “Seasons Of The Abyss” album rejoice- the band will play the album in its entirety.
Megadeth: After a few so-so albums earlier last decade, Dave Mustaine and company have found their groove again with their last two albums. With longtime bassist David Ellefson back in the fold, Megadeth is demolishing crowds everywhere. Their latest album, “Endgame” came out last year and is lead by the sizzling rip-roarer “Headcrusher”. But on this night, the band will be performing their classic “Rust In Peace” album in its entirety, so get ready to hear “Hangar 18” and others live.
Testament: The band was planning on playing “The Legacy” in full as well, but those plans are not happening. The band is in the initial stages on writing the follow-up to the killer return album “The Formation of Damnation”. No big deal, the band’s tracks are killer enough live and will be a good appetizer for the headliners.
You really can’t go wrong with this bill. So, if you can’t wait for the proposed Big Four (Metallica, Slayer, Megadeth & Anthrax) for 2011, this is gonna be one of the next best things. Slayer, Megadeth and Testament….oh my- can’t wait!
