Mayhem Descends On DTE Tomorrow

DTE Energy Music Theater expects a sellout tomorrow for Mayhem 2010.

2009 was the year where the Mayhem Fest became the fledging upstart festival to the main event for all things hard rock and heavy metal during the summer. So, as OzzFest returned for an abbreviated six date tour this summer, Mayhem officially became the biggest summer festival for 2010 and perhaps years to come. This year’s lineup is no slouch at all- with Korn, Hatebreed and Atreyu headlining their respective stages. But there’s plenty more to check out- here’s a rundown of who will be playing at the Rockstar Mayhem Festival when it comes to Detroit on Friday, August 6th:

Main Stage: Even though the sales of the new album may lag behind the band’s previous work, Korn fans are applauding the return to the band’s roots with their album “III: Remember Who You Are”. The band will headlining the main stage and hopefully bring some of the live fire they’ve been lacking on the past few tours. Rob Zombie brings his highly visual and always entertaining stage show as he backs up Korn and is out promoting his “Hellbilly Deluxe 2” album.

Even though they’re one-upped Megadeth and Ozzy in back to back trips at DTE Energy Music Theater, no one is gonna underestimate Lamb of God now. The band is coming into the home stretch of their touring behind their “Wrath” album before taking some time off. Five Finger Death Punch rounds out the main stage, who has toured relentlessly since the release of “War is the Answer”.

Jager Stage: This might be the best pound for pound stage of the day. The hardest working band in metal, Hatebreed  prepares to ignite the parking lot into a wild mess. Chimaira and Shadows Fall provide a rip-roaring backup to Hatebreed, as they are both at the top of their game. Winds of Plague starts the stage off, and who knows- with their musical chair situation with their keyboardists over the years- they’re could be another woman behind the keys when they come to Mayhem.

Silver Star Stage: The MMA clothing lineup is a sponsor for the first time as it plays host to bands such as Atreyu, who continues to solider on and put out another solid effort with last year’s “Congregation of the Damned”. The rest of the lineup includes the Canadian thrashers 3 Inches of Blood, and hate to say it- two of the most overrated bands in hard rock/metal today: Norma Jean and In This Moment. Both have released new albums that debuted in the Top 40 of the Billboard Charts in the past few weeks, but have never captured this writer’s interest in the least.

The Rockstar Mayhem Festival plays DTE Energy Music Theater on Friday, August 6th. Lawn tickets are $25, and pavilion tickets range from $39.50 to $59.50 and are available at www.palacenet.com. Additional dates and band information can be found at www.mayhemfest.com.
