Gaslight Anthem Hit Their Stride

The Gaslight Anthem and Hold Steady play a sure to be packed Fillmore on Thursday.

One of the biggest groundswells to hit modern rock in the past few years is the New Jersey based band The Gaslight Anthem and it looks like the future can only get brighter.

The band received massive praise for their new school take on blues based rock with their album, The 59 Sound. But after a few performances with the one and only Bruce Springsteen during a festival show in England, the band’s exposure skyrocketed and upped the stakes for their brand new album, American Slang.

On American Slang, the band reunites with 59 Sound producer Ted Hutt and builds on the sound from that album giving Slang more of an updated take on the previous material. Tracks like “The Queen of Lower Chelsea” and “Boxer” only build upon singer Brain Fallon’s powerful voice and diversifies the band’s sound even more so than it already was. American Slang made a big splash upon its release, debuting at #16 last month.

The band is now out on tour with the Whigs and Tim Barry through August 5th before leaving for Europe, returning to the States in late September. The band rolls through Detroit on Thursday, July 15th with fellow new school bar band The Hold Steady in tow for what is sure to be a showcase of two of the best and critically acclaimed bands out there today.

The Gaslight Anthem play the Fillmore Detroit on Thursday, July 15th. Tickets are $20.50 and are available at www.livenation.com. Additional tour dates and info can be found at www.gaslightanthem.com.
