After the California based band Thrice released their Alchemy Index Vols. I, II,III & IV ( a four-disc concept album spread over two releases) in 2007-08, the last thing you’d expect the band to do is to release another album. Most fans expected the band to take a bit break of break, but the always restless band went into the studio and recorded Beggars, which was released last fall.
The material on the EPs had an almost serene, trance like experience, according to the band, but with Beggars, the band looked for a more back to basics approach. The critically well received album is a tour de force for lead singer Dustin Kensrue, and provides some of his most thought-provoking lyrics on songs like “In Exile” and “Circles.” Beggars makes the band’s fourth straight appearance on the Top 50 of the Billboard Album Charts upon its release last fall.
Thrice has just started a summer tour behind the album’s release on June 3rd and will be playing in the States through mid-July, before heading off to Europe for festivals in August. But Thrice will be making their way through Detroit (a usual stomping ground for the band) as they play St. Andrew’s Hall on June 13th.
Whether its to hear older material like “Image of the Invisible,” or if it’s to hear new stuff off Beggars checking out Thrice is always a cerebral and raw show and one not to be missed.
Thrice plays at St. Andrew’s Hall this Sunday, June 13th. Tickets are $19.99 and are available at www.livenation.com. Additional tour dates and band info can be found at www.thrice.net.
