Over the years, the Chicago based hardcore metal band Coalesce was on hiatus and even after the band reconvened about 5 years ago, tour dates were kind of sparse to say the least. But with the release of their first album in over a decade, entitled “Ox” and the follow up EP a few months later, the band has been on a tear of touring and probably has given the most exposure of the band since their debut back in the 90’s.
I had the chance to interview guitarist Jes Steinger from the band back in February, as the band prepared to head out on the road with Harvey Milk- we discussed the band’s long road back, as well as his graduate studies and how they related to his band’s musical style. If you get the chance, read it here.
Now that the tour with Harvey Milk is over with, Coalesce will be back on the road for a more high profile tour as the band opens up for one of the forefathers of hardcore, as the band plays with Converge this Saturday, May 8th at the Magic Stick. It will be a good chance to see the evolution of the band, as well to check out like minded bands such as Lewd Acts and Black Breath. For the hardcore fan in all of us, definitely not a show to miss.
Coalesce plays with Converge this Saturday, May 8th at the Magic Stick. Tickets are $15 and are available at www.ticketmaster.com. Additional tour dates and band info can be found at www.myspace.com/coalesce.
