Former Saturday Looks Good To Me frontman Fred Thomas may be one of the most versatile artists in the indie rock scene. His new-ish project, City Center is no different as he has released the group’s second self titled release, which just came out on April 12th.
The new album is closely on the heels of City Center’s debut, which just came out early last year and is a mixture of atmospheric, tranquil pop moments. Tracks like “Beach Comber” and “Just A Feeling prove that point. Tracks like “Gold Girls” throw a little eastern influences into the music and creates quite a whismcial musical landscape.
Some of Thomas’ fans see the material on the City Center material as a departure from the Saturday Looks Good To Me material, but the new songs have a dreamy aspect to them which gives the fans a new flavor of Thomas’ musical palette, and doesn’t pigeonhole the artist into the same type of music with every release.
City Center is currently playing many dates around the Midwest and the final date of the tour brings Thomas back to his homestate of Michigan, as City Center plays with Harlem this Friday at the Majestic Café. It definitely will be a good chance to see one of indie rock’s chameleons as City Center prepares to send you to a laid back place.
City Center plays with Harlem at the Majestic Café on Friday, April 30th. Tickets are $8 and are available at www.ticketmaster.com. Additional band info and dates are available at www.myspace.com/citycenternyc.
