As the band prepares to release their fourth full length release, “Omni”, on May 4th, Seattle based art rockers Minus the Bear are celebrating the release of the album on a new label. The band recently left small indie Suicide Squeeze Records and joined Dangerbird Records, home to the ever growing Silversun Pickups among others.
The band, formed in 2001, has put out a slew of indie releases throughout the decade and former band alumni include Matt Bayles, who left the band to produce bands full time (Mastodon’s “Blood Mountain” is probably his most popular work to date).
The follow up-to 2007’s “Planet Of Ice”, “Omni” is almost two years in the making, and are using their love of ambient and sonically diverse and expanding on it even more. On the new album, the band aims to use more charging rock sounds, as well as funk to provide a blossoming palette to their musical appetite. The first single, “My Time” has been hailed as a “electro pop-lust gem”- now I am trying to grasp what exactly that means, but it will make most listeners at least want to take a listen and see the evolution of this band.
The band will be on tour through the end of May, but the band plays Detroit early on in the tour as they invade St. Andrew’s Hall this Sunday (April 25th). So, if you are looking to hear the band’s past and a preview of the future before “Omni” comes out.
Minus The Bear plays St. Andrew’s Hall on Sunday, April 25th. Tickets are $18 and are available at www.livenation.com. Additional band info and tour dates are available at www.minusthebear.com. The band’s new album, “Omni”, is available everywhere on May 4th.
